SUQIA | Project Maji

3rd Place – Project Maji (Ghana)

The solar kiosks implemented by a non-profit organisation (NPO) Project Maji consist of solar driven submersible pumps that eliminate the need for batteries, thereby limiting replacement costs and keeping maintenance requirements low. IP65 solar panels are used to power high-efficiency pumps, coupled with a controller that runs at varying time intervals to ensure water pumping occurs even during the night and low sunlight conditions. The kiosks can produce 10,000 L/day of water. 41 kiosks have been implemented in Ghana, and another 8 in Kenya, bringing the number of beneficiaries to 50,000 people.
